How to Prepare for Your Stay at Apex Recovery Rehab Centers
Learning how to prepare for rehab involves more than just packing a bag; it requires tying up loose ends to ensure you can focus entirely on recovery. From coordinating with your employer to organizing your finances, taking these proactive steps will provide peace of mind and a smoother rehab intake process upon arrival.
Finalize Professional Obligations: If you are employed, look into the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or talk to your HR department about disability leave. Taking these steps early ensures your job is protected while you prioritize your health.
Organize Your Finances: Ensure your bills are set to autopay or are paid in advance. This includes rent/mortgage, utilities, and any personal loans. Removing financial stress allows you to commit fully to the clinical program.
Arrange Care for Dependents: Make firm arrangements for the care of children, elderly family members, or pets. Knowing your loved ones are safe and cared for is essential for your mental clarity during treatment.
Compile a Contact List: Make a physical list of emergency and family phone numbers. Per state regulations, all clients must provide an Emergency Contact. Also, include contact info for your “Presence in Treatment” stakeholders, such as:
Probation Officers or Judges
Lawyers and EAPs
Primary Care Physicians or Therapists
Handle Legal and Medical Logistics: Make any necessary phone calls prior to admitting. If you have upcoming court dates or medical appointments, notify the relevant parties that you will be in a residential program.
Pharmacy and Medication Planning: Note that you are responsible for the cost of your medications while in treatment. Ensure you have a method of payment or insurance information ready for pharmacy expenses.
Complete Personal Errands: Because Apex Recovery maintains a focused therapeutic environment, we do not transport clients off-campus for personal reasons, such as haircuts, MoneyGrams, or non-emergency doctor’s appointments. Complete these errands before your intake date.
Seek Support from Loved Ones: Spend quality time with supportive friends and family members. Explain your goals for treatment so they can provide the specific type of encouragement you’ll need during your stay.

Can You Have Your Phone in Rehab?
All communication with any person outside of the facility will be restricted for a period of one week (7 days) at the beginning of your stay, and you will not have access to your cell phone during this blackout period. After the first week, access to your cell phone during specific evening hours (per the programming schedule) may be permitted at the sole discretion of your primary counselor. Access to cell phones after the blackout period is always a privilege and may be revoked for any reason, as determined by your primary counselor and/or treatment team. Case management will support you in handling all calls to legal contacts, employers, for financial purposes, etc.
Information for the clients loved ones: Due to HIPAA laws, we may not release any information about a client to any party unless the client has provided written consent.
Checking on your loved ones progress: Loved ones may check on the progress of a client by contacting the facility while the client is in detox. Once the client transfers to residential, their primary counselor will be the contact for updates.
Can family visit me in rehab?
We encourage family involvement in the client’s recovery process. Visiting is Sunday from 3pm to 4:30pm and must be scheduled with your counselor prior to Sunday.
All visitors for a family session must be approved by the primary counselor. Only four (4) visitors will be permitted. Any request for a family session must be scheduled and approved by the primary counselor. We highly recommend that minor children (under the age of 14) not attend these sessions.
Schedule a free, confidential assessment with a licensed clinician. Apex Recovery can check your insurance coverage levels for drug and alcohol addiction, and mental health treatment.
How Insurance Works After Arrival
Each insurance company has medical-based guidelines that we must follow to access the benefits provided in their policy. We work diligently to maximize the treatment days available for each client. Our counselors keep the clients informed of their insurance status.
FAQs About Preparing for Rehab
At Apex Recovery, we understand that maintaining certain connections is important. Unlike many facilities that have a total ban, we may allow the use of laptops, cell phones, and the internet depending on your specific clinical needs and progress. We recommend contacting our admissions team to discuss your situation before arrival.
The rehab intake process is designed to be as welcoming and smooth as possible. Upon arrival, you will undergo a medical screening and a clinical assessment to tailor your treatment plan. We will also conduct a respectful search of your belongings to ensure the safety and sobriety of our therapeutic community.
Your rehab packing list for 30 days should focus on comfort and modesty. Pack roughly 7–10 days’ worth of weather-appropriate clothing, as laundry facilities are available on-site. Include comfortable shoes, alcohol-free toiletries, and any current prescription medications in their original bottles. Avoid clothes with references to drugs or alcohol.
We recognize the therapeutic value of animals. While residents generally do not live with their pets, we may allow pets to visit during designated visiting hours. For those with specific needs, such as guide dogs or certified therapy animals, please contact us in advance so we can make the necessary accommodations.
Yes. Apex Recovery strongly encourages family involvement as part of a successful long-term recovery strategy. We can accommodate family therapy or support sessions. We recommend coordinating these visits with your primary counselor once your initial assessment and detox period (if applicable) are complete.
When learning how to prepare for rehab, we suggest setting up “autopay” for your monthly bills and utilizing FMLA or short-term disability to protect your employment. Our admissions team can often provide a “Presence in Treatment” letter to verify your enrollment for employers, courts, or insurance providers.
