3 Tips for Finding Alcohol Treatment Centers

an artful "detox" sign

Alcohol use disorder. It is something that unfortunately, far too many Americans suffer from.

As of 2019, there are 14.5 million Americans in the country that have alcohol use disorder. Some of those people reach the point where they try to seek alcohol treatment.

If you are in the Tennessee area, you may be looking for alcohol treatment centers for you or a loved one.

What should you be looking for in an alcohol treatment center? What makes one stand out above the rest?

These are three tips on how to find the best one for you.

1. Consider the Cost

The first thing that you have to do is consider the cost of how much treatment is going to be for you or a loved one. Unfortunately, like most things in life, this is not going to come for free.

However, if you are in a financially difficult position to afford this, something that you can do is look at the insurance options that treatment centers provide. A lot of treatment centers work closely with some of the biggest insurance companies in the country to make sure that there are at least some options where you can provide coverage.

What this can do for you is that it can take out a big chunk of the expenses that you would have to pay out of pocket for this type of treatment center.

For example, let’s say that a treatment center costs $5,000 if you do not have any insurance coverage for it. However, if you do have insurance coverage for this, you may only have to pay $500 out of pocket.

This is the type of benefit you have for using a treatment center that is in your insurance network. If you are having a difficult time finding one that meets your insurance needs, then you will need to consider the cost.

If the cost is more than you think you can comfortably afford, you may have to look for other options or ask for help from people you know. Do not jump into this until you know your financial situation for a treatment center.

2. Consider the Services Offered

Next, you need to consider the services that a treatment center offers. For people that suffer from alcohol use disorder, there are two main parts of a program that any type of treatment will fall under.

These are inpatient rehab and outpatient rehab. Inpatient rehab is when you do all of your treatment in the facility.

This involves staying there for a period of time and you will have little to no contact with the outside world. In return, you will get full support from the staff in the facility and you will only be surrounded by them and other people who are also looking to recover from alcoholism.

Then, there is outpatient rehab. Instead of staying in the facility, you are essentially only commuting there.

You can drive in for visits and to speak to therapists on staff there. However, at the end of each day, you drive back to your home.

This can be good for those that are looking to save a little money on treatment. However, the con with this option is that it will be more difficult to isolate yourself from the outside world while you are going through this treatment. That can be particularly bad for those that have negative influences in their home or their neighborhood.

Consider what treatment these centers offer and what the pros and cons are for each option in a facility.

3. Consider the Location and Environment

Finally, you may want to consider the location that this treatment center is in and the surrounding environment.

For the location, how far is it from you? Can you get there from your house quickly or is it a long commute? This is going to come into play if you choose outpatient rehab because you will have to travel back and forth every day.

Then, you have to consider the surrounding environment. For example, you may find a treatment center that is located in the middle of a city. Or, you may find one that is in the middle of nowhere in a rural environment.

You may be someone that prefers to have a little outdoor space to walk around. The reason for this is time outside can help reduce stress. All it takes to achieve this is getting outside for 20 minutes a day.

The ideal location for a treatment center is one that is a calm environment and is free of distractions. So, one in a quiet area where you have plenty of space to walk around outside may be the perfect fit for you.

Do not underestimate these factors, because the environment you put yourself in for your treatment can affect your morale. If it does that, it can affect your motivation for finishing the treatment.
